A hand-stitched mini-comic from the GridLab bench. Artifact spotlights, restoration field notes, build glimpses, and workshop ephemera.
Every piece of hardware that comes through this workshop has a story. Some arrived in boxes. Some were pulled from recycling bins. All of them deserved better than a landfill.
Sunday morning at the flea market. Tables stretching three blocks. Laptops stacked like cordwood. Phone parts sorted into yogurt containers. A man selling only power adapters — hundreds of them, organized by voltage. This is where the artifacts begin their second life.
99% IPA, a toothbrush, and patience. That's 90% of device restoration. The other 10% is knowing when to stop scrubbing.
On the bench: an Arduino Uno reading temp, humidity, and pressure. Displayed on a salvaged 16×2 LCD. Total cost: $14 in parts. Total satisfaction: immeasurable.
That's all for Issue #01. The workshop is always open. If you have hardware that needs a second chance, you know where to find us.
